Our Land & Stock

our past, present & future

Waihi Pukawa Trust is made up of two farming stations; Waihi Pukawa Station and Taurewa Station. Waihi Pukawa Station is the corpus land of Waihi Pukawa Trust, with a small amount of lease land. It is a total of 3800 Hectares, and primarily carries sheep, beef and deer. The station is located on the Southwestern side of Lake Taupo along State Highway 41, Kuratau. The underlying rock is Taupo and Kaharoa ash and older ash rock originating from several major eruptions. Soils are loamy to sandy or sand over loam, generally free-draining pumice soils with a high erosion potential.

Taurewa Station is leased by Waihi Pukawa Trust. The Station is a total of 2615 hectares of effective farm area and also carries sheep, beef and deer. It is located along State Highway 47.

Waihi Pukawa Trust has two main forest stands.

There were 438 hectares of Radiata Pine, plus 8 hectares of Douglas Fir planted on Waihi Pukawa Station between 1989 and 2017.

There were also 500 hectares of Radiata Pine planted in a joint venture forest on Rangiatea Station between 1994 and 1995.

Harvesting has occurred in both forests, but the remainder was recently put on hold primarily due to market conditions after Cyclone Gabrielle.

The trust also has beehive sites and leases operational rights along a forestry access road.
